September 26th, one century and some after Winsor McCay was born (1869 - 1871), his editorial cartoons remain oh, so valid! Better known for his comic strip Little Nemo and the animated film Gertie the Dinosaur, today we look at McCay's political & economical illustrations, where the comic page style meets the dark black and white, the bold linear perspectives and highly detailed sections, be it architecture, cityscapes or fantastic worlds. With his use of hatching and color, Winsor McCay was unmatched until Walt Disney revolutionized the world of animation, in the 1930s.
